U.N., Sep 26 (PRIME) -- The U. S. has put heave pressure on Europe regarding energy cooperation with Russia, Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko told PRIME on Wednesday.
“The pressure is really heavy… U.S. representatives have visited European states for years to order how and with whom to have energy cooperation. This is absolutely unacceptable political pressure,” he said.
Energy cooperation between Russia and European states create a material factor for strengthening the region’s security, Grushko added.
U.S. President Donald Trump told the 73rd session of the U.N. General Assembly that Germany would become fully dependent on Russia’s energy supplies if it does not alter its policy to support joint energy projects.
The Nord Stream-2 project envisages construction of two lines of a natural gas pipeline with an annual capacity of up to 55 billion cubic meters, running from the Russian shore to Germany under the Baltic Sea. Russian gas giant Gazprom will implement the project together with Germany’s E.ON and BASF, Royal Dutch Shell, Austria’s OMV, and France’s Engie.
